Description

To address the above the project will apply the Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP) approach. The PIP approach is an innovative way of transforming small-scale subsistence farm households into more productive and sustainable farms. Changing farmers’ mindsets by motivating them to transform their reality through conscious collective action is at the core of the PIP approach. The project will also support the ongoing school milk program and be supportive to policy actors to developed and implement inclusive and responsive livestock policies and practices.

Job Purpose

The Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP) Field Officer works at regional level, ensuring the implementation of the PIP approach for smallholder farmer/households and community. The PIP Field Officer is responsible for providing technical extension service in all aspects of livestock management and productivity ensuring that project activities are effectively implemented. He/she will also be involved in supporting the implementation of strategies, coordinating stakeholders and implementation of activities as well as contributing to organization- wide learning. The PIP Field Officer will work in collaboration with SHF in the local communities, government, Development Partners, Civil Society and other stakeholders to achieve empowered and motivated households, better performing farming systems (with the focus on livestock) leading to improved household food security and income, empowered and motivated farmer communities, restored degraded hotspots, improved market Access, farmers generating income from livestock and viable entrepreneurial groups.

Job Description

Responsibilities

Service & process delivery
Conduct community awareness and mobilization meetings to develop village visions (Plans), organize villages to restore degraded hot spots. Create PIP in targeted villages and conduct assessment of current farming systems at village level. Facilitate implementation of village vision/work plans, including provision of training and technical assistance to SHFs on all aspects for livestock farming.

Internal and external communication
Facilitate learning events among the SHF in villages, document activities, impact and lessons learned.

Project data handling
Collect data for baseline study, gender analysis study, agro-ecological and farming systems. Analyse market opportunities and bottlenecks

Process improvement
Facilitate prioritization of general market access bottlenecks and market opportunities in selected commodities. Facilitate identification of entrepreneurial initiatives in target villages. Develop work plans with the Regional Coordinators with input from technical experts for activities to be implemented.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in community development, natural resource management, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Land use and management and agroforestry.
Relevant experience of 5 years minimum in project implementation. eGFzygU veIPy
Good analytical and IT skills.
Command of local Uganda languages is preferred.
A self-motivated achiever with excellent leadership, teamwork and coaching
Extension, Communication, analytical and organisational skills.
Strong work ethics, high level of confidentiality and Integrity
