JOB TITLE:  Senior WASH Associate

Under the overall guidance from senior management and Public Health Officer, this position will be primarily responsible to develop, guide and oversee WASH strategy for refugee villages (RVs) of Pillar 1. The incumbent of this position will support WASH related activities in the refugee villages as part of the Pillar 1 Programme Technical team.

UNHCR’s policies, standards and procedures relating to WASH are constantly and coherently applied in the area of responsibility (AoR).
The needs of persons of concern are assessed and analysed in a participatory manner and using an Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective to form a firm basis for planning
(process and functions undertaken to achieve results)

Provide technical guidance and support to partners on all WASH-related issues to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, sustainability and environmental sound WASH interventions.
Act as focal person on water, sanitation and hygiene promotion issues within UNHCR and liaise with UN related agencies and governmental and non-governmental counterparts.
Review on a regular basis the quantity and quality of water and sanitation services offered in the RVs and ensures the maintenance of records of WASH performance indicators for all locations.

Proven technical expertise in area of WASH assessment including surveys, programme implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and coordination.
Knowledge and experience of working with local partner agencies with a capacity to provide formal and informal training.
Excellent knowledge of relevant computer application, including AutoCad.
Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
Prior exposure to UNHCR refugee operations and functions relating to office administration and programme activities.

Experience Requirements

Minimum 11 years of work experience with at least 5 years in the field of water and sanitation.
Work experience with UN or other international, national NGOs.

Education Requirements

Completion of secondary education and an advanced training/certification in Civil or Tech Engineering.
