Process Safety Engineer
The Process Safety Engineer will report to the Senior Safety Engineer and will be responsible for facilitating, coordinating and/or performing the Process Safety Management (PSM) mandate of the Authority.
The Process Safety Engineer will also be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of Independent Protection Layers (IPLs), in reducing the likelihood or severity of an undesirable event, to meet
regulatory needs for acceptable levels of risk.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure compliance of licensees to process safety requirements in the
Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act, 2013, the
Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream storage) Act, 2013, Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2006 and other applicable laws, regulations, standards and international best practice;
Good knowledge and understanding of the national health, safety legislation,
guidelines and standards.
Membership to nationally and internationally recognized professional bodies;
Good understanding of all process safety management elements and process
design in the upstream and midstream operations.
Knowledge of the application of Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and
Inherent Safe Design (ISD) principles;
Solid understanding of process design concepts, process control systems,
safety instrumented systems, active and passive fire protection and emergency
preparedness and response.
Ability to interpret piping and
