Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. In Uganda, the UN Women Country Programme contributes to the development objectives of Uganda’s blueprint, the Vision 2030 and the National Development Plan (NDP); the SDGs, particularly SG 5 and is fully aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2021-2025 as well as UN Women Global Strategic Plan.

The Uganda Country Programme aims to achieve the following outcome level results in order to address the root causes of gender inequality the Uganda Country Office (UGCO), in collaboration with other national and international actors will contribute to the achievement the following outcome areas; (1) Inclusive and accountable governance and women’s access to Justice; (2) Women’s rights, gender responsive peace and security; (3) Increased productivity, income and access to resources for women and girls; (4) Vulnerable women mitigate and adapt to climate change & Disaster Risk Reduction; (5) Women & girls enjoy quality basic social and protection services; and (6) gender equality and women rights fulfilled in a culturally responsive environment.
