Who We Are

International Justice Mission (IJM) is the global leader in protecting vulnerable people from violence around the world. Our team of over 1,200 professionals are at work worldwide in over 30 offices. Together we are on a mission to rescue millions, protect half a billion, and make justice unstoppable.

We are a global community that cares for one another. We believe that the way we work is as important as the results we achieve. We provide professional excellence with joy and celebration to all those we serve.

The Need

For 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, IJM Uganda is inviting legal professionals into a Fellowship program that provides a dynamic learning environment and the opportunity to apply their legal knowledge in seeking justice in cases of intimate partner violence and sexual violence against children.

The Legal Fellows will be based in Kampala (2), Gulu (1) and Fort Portal (1) and report to the Manager, Legal, with guidance from the Legal Coordinators within the field locations.

Responsibilities

Support collaborative casework through providing timely legal research, legal representation to survivors and working with duty bearers to respond to cases of violence against women and children (VAWC);
Contribute to maintaining partner relations with justice system officials and other stakeholders to strengthen the justice systems response to VAWC; and
Document all casework and justice system-strengthening tasks and reports to contribute to updated case management.
Participate in all learning sessions as guided by the Manager, Legal.
