Job Title : Laboratory Technician
Salary Scale : U4
Reports to : Senior Veterinary officer
To conduct laboratory investigations and ensure the safe disposal of specimens and laboratory waste.
i. Laboratory investigations conducted and reported;
ii. Production and marketing staff guided in the preparation of specimens;
iii. Preparation of laboratory reagents and stains conducted;
iv. Hazardous laboratory substances and waste disposed;
v. Participation in quality control and safety programmes done;
vi. Laboratory inventory of equipment and chemicals maintained;
vii. Participation in planning and budgeting for the Laboratory Unit done;
viii. Participation in collaborative research activities done; and
ix. Periodic laboratory reports compiled and submitted to the supervisor.
i. Carrying out or supervising laboratory analysis and submitting reports to the requesting officer;
ii. Guiding production and marketing staff in the preparation of specimens for laboratory tests;
iii. Supervising or participating in the preparation of laboratory reagents and stains for routine
iv. Disposing hazardous laboratory substances and waste;
v. Participating in quality control and safety programmes in the laboratories;
vi. Maintaining an inventory of all equipment and chemicals in the laboratory;
Records and information management;
Concern for quality and standards;
Communicating effectively ; and
Working experience of three (3) years as a Laboratory Assistant in the Public or a recognized private organization.
A Diploma in Medical Laboratory Techniques from a recognized Institution. Should be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
