Aga Khan Foundation

The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private, non-denominational development agencies that share a mission to improve the living conditions and opportunities of marginalized communities in target countries across Africa and Asia. AKF was established by His Highness the Aga Khan in Switzerland in 1967 and began working in East Africa in 1974. In Uganda, AKF operates a multi-sectoral portfolio that includes programming in Education, Economic Inclusion, Civil Society, Health, and Early Childhood Development predominantly in the Central and West Nile Regions. AKF is committed to ensuring that girls and boys, women and men, are equipped with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values to help them interact effectively with the world and be contributing members of a pluralistic society.

Background

AKF, in partnership with World University Services Canada (WUSC), has been delivering the Adolescent Girls’ Education in Crisis Initiative (AGENCI), a four-year project focused on enabling adolescent girls and young women in Moyo and Obongi to pursue diverse educational and learning pathways. Critical to achieving this is working with communities, especially Adolescent Girls and Female Youth (AGFY) to shift harmful attitudinal and socio-cultural barriers that inhibit or prohibit AGFY from accessing gender equitable, quality education (including, barriers, such as SGBV and gender inequality). To combat these harmful cultural norms and beliefs, AGENCI implements a variety of activities to enable social behavioural change. Through this lens, AGENCI is seeking a Graphic Designer to design materials for a girl-led Gender Equity (GE) Campaign.

The Graphic Designer will leverage design processes already undergone with AGYF from February to June, whereby girls and adolescent boys identified key issues, thematic areas, allies, and communication modalities that are important to them and worked with the graphic designer to bring the visual elements and brand of the Campaign to life. The Graphic Designer will be expected to work closely with the storyteller consultant, LAM Sisterhood, to align the visual identity of the Campaign with the story and narration.

Scope of Work

The Graphic Designer will be expected to:

Build on prior work with the girls and boys to further develop the visual identity and brand of the campaign, working closely with LAM Sisterhood to bring the story and narrative to life in a visual format
Co-design campaign materials as desired by the girls and boys, such as t-shirts, posters, and sign-posts
Provide technical guidance on product and campaign placement of products and messages
Work with the Campaign leadership team and the border campaign leaders online and in person to co-create the above mentioned products
Expected Qualifications and Experience

AKF is looking for a Graphic Designer that has experience developing and executing gender equality campaigns, particularly, through the lens of AGYF. It is expected for the Graphic Designer to work closely with the AKF team and other key stakeholders, especially AGFY, as required.

Prior work experience in designing gender equity campaign materials
Prior experience with adolescent girls and boys in Moyo and Obongi
Sample designs of previous work undertaken
Delivers high-quality designs
