Organization Background

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the world's leading crisis re-sponse agencies, providing life-saving assistance and supporting recovery and re-construction for people affected by war and natural disasters. Active in public health, education, livelihoods, women's empowerment, youth development, and protection and promotion of rights, IRC assists people from harm to home.

The IRC was registered in Uganda in mid-1998 and implements rehabilitation activi-ties in the sectors of Child and Youth Protection and development, Health, Econom-ic recovery and Development and women protection and empowerment as well as contributing to the response to the Southern Sudanese Refugee situation. IRC Uganda has a head office in Kampala, field offices in Lamwo, Moroto, Kyaka and West Nile.

Kulea Watoto is an initiative aimed at improving early childhood development and transforming livelihoods of refugees and host communities in Uganda by providing nurturing care and early childhood learning opportunities, and to build their own skills to generate income for their families. Kulea Watoto will use a unique two-generation approach to reach out to young children under five years of age and their caregivers in the districts of Yumbe, Kyegegwa and Kampala. Kulea Watoto will be implemented in partnership with four established local partners – including the AfriChild Centre, Madrasa Early Childhood Program, Kabarole Research and Resource Centre (KRC) and Literacy and Adult Basic Education (LABE). To achieve this, the project will offer learning sessions for parents and caregivers on responsive caregiving and provision of early learning opportunities, improved links to children’s services in local communities, livelihoods training, start-up funding for promising business ideas, and more

Scope of Work

The enumerator will support with data collection of a baseline assessment in Kampala.

Duties and Responsibilities

● Participate in the training in data collection methodologies and tools.

● Carry out pretesting of tools and gathering feedback.

● Make calls to clients to book appointments, register and conduct interviews.

● Take notes/transcribe interviews conducted and prepare summaries.

● To collect and update relevant data that meets the intended purpose and quality using the recommended data collection tools/methods and platforms.

● To ensure compliance to organizational performance standards, code of conduct and safeguarding policy.

● Fill in and submit to supervisor timesheets detailing level of effort per day worked.

● To adhere to confidentiality procedures and policies when collecting, storing, and sharing data.

● Safeguard gargets provided including but not limited to tablets.

● To perform other duties as assigned and agreed upon with your supervisor.

The candidate is expected to be a resident from the key three divisions that the program is targeting. (Makindye, Central & Rubaga).
The candidate should possess a national ID/ Refuge ID.
Expected to have had experience in data collection (previous engagement in baseline survey or other similar assessment is preferable) with very good communication skills, ability to speak and understand local language/relevant languages as required and good oral and written English.
