Description

The ideal STTA will have demonstrable experience mentoring and coaching entrepreneurs or start-ups in Uganda and/or East Africa to initiate and scale innovative business ideas. The STTA will exhibit work done to upskill potential pioneers in identifying and implementing market-based solutions to climate-related challenges. The verifiable impact of the potential STTA’s past work will build a strong case for their recruitment at CSJ as impact is a key objective of the delivery of the programme.

Objective of the assignment

To enhance the potential pioneers' capacity to develop high-quality business proposals.
To strengthen the potential pioneers’ ability to pitch their business proposals for the Uganda Climate Innovation Fund.
To help build a lasting impact in Uganda’s climate innovation ecosystem through capacitated entrepreneurs.
Scope of work

Assist the potential pioneers in turning their innovative ideas into viable businesses by developing the concept, the business cases, the business model, cash flow analysis, and risk analysis among others.
Provide one-on-one strategic guidance to the potential pioneers to write high-quality business proposals following the CSJ templates.
Provide technical assistance to the potential pioneers in developing a pitch deck including strengthening their ability to pitch for the Uganda Climate Innovation Fund.
Identify capacity-building needs for the potential pioneers.
Support the potential pioneers to identify and seal strategic collaborating partner(s) that can accelerate the completion of the innovation. eF7QdDJ veH6o
Support the potential pioneers in identifying and forming the right expertise (team) that can implement and deliver the proposed innovation to success.
Guide the potential pioneer to develop a realistic breakeven analysis and budget for the proposed innovation.
Provide constructive feedback to the potential pioneers and point out areas of improvement where necessary during the technical assistance activities.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required, and master’s degree strongly preferred in business administration/MBA, sustainable development, climate adaptation/mitigation, green innovation/entrepreneurship, international business, economic development, agribusiness, education, and/or other relevant field.
At least 3-5 years of experience working with entrepreneurs, start-ups, Innovation hubs/center's, incubators, or incubation.
Demonstrated ability to cultivate, build, and maintain strong working relationships with start-ups, entrepreneurs, and mentors among others.
Familiarity with a broad range of climate change-related innovation approaches and methodologies.
Knowledge of Uganda and East Africa’s climate innovation landscape – successful innovations, failed innovations, and reasons for both.
Knowledge of the pitfalls and opportunities in advancing Uganda’s micro, small, and medium enterprises, and what programmes such as CSJ can do to facilitate better outcomes.
Excellent communication and writing skills with examples (if requested) of approved past outputs such as reports, articles, and other material relevant to this task.
