Heifer Project International in Uganda is set to implement a 5-year project funded by the Master Card Foundation under its program Young Africa Works. The project seeks to improve socio-economic well-being and resilience of young people in the Busoga sub-region by 2029. The project target is to reach 250,000 young people between 16-35 years (70% females and 3% youth with disabilities). The project will achieve this target by facilitating collaboration with like-minded partners including The Consortium for Enhancing University responsiveness to Agribusiness Development Limited (CURAD), The Federation of Small & Medium Enterprises (FSME), Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FSDU) and ASIGMA group.

FUNCTION

The role of the driver will be to support Heifer International and its implementing partner organizations to successfully implement the SAYE project in the Busoga region by ensuring proper maintenance of vehicles, safe and timely transportation of project officers, visitors, goods as well as running office errands.

Employee will work closely with the cluster administrative assistants to ensure that all permits and insurance are kept up to date.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DELIVERABLES

Provide transport and delivery services to the project.
Keep passengers safe at all times by defensive driving, timely servicing and ensuring full functionality of the vehicle including being in possession of a fully operational repair kit, spare Tyres, first aid box among others.
Monitor the vehicle condition, early identification of any repairs and timely reporting them to the cluster administrative assistant.

Accurate recording of the vehicle logbook (travels, maintenance and repair works)
Maintain vehicle cleanliness at all times.
Strictly observe traffic rules and regulations and maximum speed limits as prescribed by the traffic laws of Uganda.
Ensure that motor vehicles have valid insurance and well displayed at all times.
Ensure vehicle logbook and log sheets are available in each vehicle.
Ensure security of all vehicle tools.
Perform daily errands such as collecting and delivering documents, making bank deposits, and refueling the vehicles as per the fueling schedule.
Assist in routine office chores were necessary such as photocopying, binding, moving furniture, and shredding among others.
Be conversant and adhere to the motor vehicle usage policy.
May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Secondary education with an A level certificate plus five (5) years’ driving experience in a not for profit/development organization setting.
A valid driver's license (automatic and manual) and a clean driving record. eENFdna u3B5x
Preferred requirements
Certificate in defensive driving from a registered driving institute.
Most Critical proficiencies

Basic to intermediate knowledge of vehicle mechanics.
Strong communication skills both in English and the local language of the cluster area.
Knowledge of the operating area.
Strong adherence to the motor vehicle usage policy as well as local and national traffic laws.
Basic intermediate computer skills with micro soft office Suite (word and excel)
Knowledge of simple clerical work.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (23kgs) floor to waist as required.
